The John Ripley Forbes Big Trees Forest Preserve is a beautiful wooded park with nature trails and streams. The park is the first Fulton county park to be part of the Old Growth Forest Network (OGFN), a national network of protected mature forests.
The Southeast Land Preservation Trust began to acquire land to protect this forest in 1990. The 30 acre park was assembled in partnership with Fulton County, the State of Georgia, and the City of Sandy Springs.
The park has a network of well-maintained trails. Visitors can take a short hike on the smaller loops, or traverse the entire forest on the Back Country Loop Trail. The trails and intersections are clearly marked.
